COMMENTS FROM THE BARSTOOL

This week's episode comes from the  Spirit of Toronto Festival, and I'd like to thank organizer Johanna Ngoh and her entire team for their hospitality this weekend.

The festival had the first public tasting of Highland Park's new 40-year-old single malt...in fact, the bottle arrived in Toronto just hours before the doors opened.

Now, I wouldn't come up here just to do one episode. In the coming weeks, you'll hear about one of the world's greatest whisky bars...one with 460 different single malts behind the bar...on the wall, along the stairs, and in the basement!

If you've followed the stories about Nikka's Japanese single malts winning major whisky awards, there'll be a special episode devoted to those whiskies as well. I had the chance to taste the Nikka Yoichi 10 and 20-year-old malts, along with the Taketsuru "blended malt" for the first tme this weekend. Now I understand what all the fuss is about!

I also had the chance to meet some old friends and finally put faces to their e-mail addresses, and met several long-time and new WhiskyCast listeners as well.

Thanks for your support of WhiskyCast, and please tell the whisky lovers you know to listen in!

Slainte!

EPISODE 144: MAY 10, 2008

On the road again, and back in one of my favorite cities...Toronto. This time around, it's for the Spirit of Toronto Festival. EPISODE 143: MAY 4, 2008

Good things take time, and after 109 years, Ardmore is finally being released as a single malt. Until now, all of the Aberdeenshire distillery's output has been used for blending, but after Beam Global acquired Ardmore a couple of years ago and realized just what it had...plans were quickly made to release the Ardmore Traditional single malt. We'll hear from Ardmore master distiller Alistair Longwell about the distillery's history and his new pride and joy. In the news, winners of the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Awards, Glen Grant opens a new visitors center, and Scotch whisky exports set a new record.

EPISODE 142: APRIL 27, 2008

This is Kentucky Derby week in Louisville, and that makes it a perfectly good time to focus on bourbon. We'll hear from Ron Givens, author of the new book "Bourbon at its Best." Ron's book covers everything from bourbon history to travel tips and cocktail recipes. One of the recipes is for the Seelbach Cocktail, named for the legendary Old Seelbach Bar at the Seelbach Hilton in Louisville. Jerry Slater tells us about the Old Seelbach's century of history with bourbon.

EPISODE 141: APRIL 20, 2008

Running a distillery is a tough job...but Ian MacMillan runs three. Oh, he serves as the master blender, too. Ian's in charge of Burn Stewart's three distilleries: Bunnahabhain, Deanston, and Tobermory...and he also is responsible for the Black Bottle blended Scotch. Ian tells us about his 36 years in the whisky business in this episode. In the news, a major -- and unexpected -- change at Maker's Mark, as Kevin Smith replaces Dave Pickerell as master distiller. We'll also have the World Whisky Awards winners, the new 40-year-old Highland Park, and much more...
